Philadelphia Eagles running back Will Shipley suffered “a partial tear of his plantar fascia” and could miss multiple games as a result, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Shipley’s injury occurred relatively early during the Eagles’ Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While he was not listed on the injury report entering Sunday’s game, he was listed on the report in previous weeks with a foot injury.
Normally the Eagles’ third-string running back, Shipley started against the Jags
because Saquon Barkley was ruled out due to a hamstring injury and Tank Bigsby was placed on injured reserve.
With Shipley expected to miss time, the Eagles currently have two healthy running backs on the roster: Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele. Pierce logged a team-high 11 carries in Shipley’s absence but he only managed to gain 14 yards in no small part due to an undermanned and struggling offensive line. Steele was limited to special teams duty against the Jags.
It remains to be seen if Barkley will be able to return to the field in Week 7. That seems soon to be returning from a hammy. If Barkley can’t suit up, the Eagles will have to ride with Pierce and Steele. Perhaps they’ll call up Jaydon Blue from the practice squad to round out that group. They might also need to sign another running back to the PS for depth purposes.
Team health has been a problem for the Eagles this season and Shipley’s injury is just the latest bad news.
