Ouch!
Last month, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran and No. 10-ranked Flyweight, Tim Elliott, pulled off one of the year’s biggest upsets when he strangled Japan’s Kai Asakura as a +255 underdog on the UFC 319 pay-per-view (PPV) main card inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois (watch highlights).
But that huge win — which secured his ranking in the Top 15 — came at a painful cost.
Elliott recently revealed on social media that Asakura broke his leg in the first round with a kick, meaning
he fought through two rounds of pain before getting the tap.
“Cats out of the bag, [Asakura] broke my bitch ass leg when he kicked me in the first round,” Elliott wrote on social media. “I’m not ducking [Charles Johnson]. That’s a fight I like, but it’s looking like an 8-week ordeal!”
While UFC apparently hoped Elliott would make a quick turnaround against Johnson, he’s now looking at three months — or longer — on the sidelines.
The 38-year-old veteran didn’t even know he was competing on a broken leg until after the fight, when the pain continued to worsen. Still, the win extended his win streak to two, both finishes by submission.
Elliott (21-13-1) has quietly won four of his last five, with his only setback coming against surging former UFC contender Muhammad Mokaev. For now, he’ll be forced to heal up before chasing another ranked win inside the Octagon.
Get well soon, Tim!
