According to a report from Kicker journalist Frank Linkesch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Arijon Ibrahimović will have the Hinrunde to prove he is the right person for the job — or he could be gone:
Bayern are planning with Arijon Ibrahimović as Luis Díaz’s direct backup on the left-wing. Initially, Bayern were looking to sign a left winger (hence the pursuit of Anthony Gordon). But after the latter moved to Barcelona, there was a change of plan – and the club opted for Ismael Saibari, who is mainly
a central player. This has opened the door for Ibrahimović to return to Bayern and fill the void behind Díaz. Bayern bosses believe Ibrahimović has the desire and motivation to seize the chance. Within the club, it is said that they will reassess this plan during the winter break and see whether it was successful.
BFW Analysis
In some reports, Ibrahimović has been listed as a roamer across the front line, while others pinpointed him as a potential backup to either Díaz or Kane.
What probably matters more is the timeframe. Hopefully, a few months will be enough for the youngster to get a chance to prove his mettle. In the past, head coach Vincent Kompany has shown a real reluctance to rotate. After a very busy season and a World Cup summer, though, Kompany could be more open to playing his subs more.
Whatever happens, Ibrahimović will need to be ready whenever called upon.
