We’re into the quarter final stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and with just seven games to play (yes, we have already watched 97 games go by!), we’re close to finding out who the next world champion is.
Spain have bounced back from starting the competition with a goalless draw against Cabo Verde to top their group. They hummed to a 3-0 win over Austria in the Round of 32 before beating Portugal to get here. Their defence has been their key factor as they are yet to concede this tournament.
Belgium
have been perennial big tournament underperformers, and started off with draws against Egypt and Iran before needing to beat New Zealand to progress. They then came back from the dead two goals down against Senegal to win in overtime in the Round of 32, before thumping the hosts USA in the BalogunGate game.
This should be a balanced game, but it will come down to the Belgians breaching the Spanish defence for the first time this tournament. For the Spaniards, the lack of a focal point in attack might end up being where they trip up.
