BYU has scheduled a future game in Las Vegas, according to On3’s Brett McMurphy. McMurphy reports that BYU will play Oregon State in Allegiant Stadium in 2028. Ryan Clarke of The Oregonian reports that the game will be on ESPN.
The timing suggests that this is related to a future BYU-Oregon State series. BYU last year announced a home-and-home series with Oregon State that would begin in Provo in 2027 and return to Corvallis in 2028. FBS Schedules recently reported that the 2028 return game in Corvallis was
canceled while the 2027 game in Provo would stay. Below is the language from the amended contract:
“The football game originally scheduled to be played on September 9, 2028, in Corvallis, Oregon, with Oregon State University as the Host Institution and Brigham Young University as the Visiting Institution, is hereby mutually agreed by the Parties to no longer be played as scheduled. The Parties further agree to engage in good faith discussions to reschedule a future game, to be hosted by Oregon State University, for a mutually agreed-upon future date, time, and season.“
If the 2027 game in Provo remains, this essentially turns from a home-and-home series to a home-and neutral series, with the original game in Corvallis replaced with a game in Las Vegas.
BYU is 5-6 all-time versus Oregon State. The most recent meeting was a 42-24 win by the Beavers in Provo in 2012.
