Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
Roob’s five most surprising and most disappointing Eagles in training camp – NBCSP Darius Cooper: It’s hard enough for a rookie wide receiver to have an impressive training camp. When that receiver is undrafted and comes from an obscure FCS college somewhere in the middle of Texas, that’s crazy. But that’s what Cooper has done. Drafted or not, Tarleton State or Georgia, Cooper came to Philly with a Division 1 work ethic and the confidence level of a 1st-round
pick, and he’s displayed his ability both in practice and in the first preseason game, when he had six catches for 82 yards. Cooper is still fighting for a roster spot, especially with John Metchie III now in the mix. But he’s shown that he has a chance to be a player in this league, and if he doesn’t make the final 53 the Eagles are going to hope like heck that they can get him through waivers to the practice squad.
Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: First look at John Metchie III – BGN
It’s hard not to grade Hurts on a curve considering the first-team offense was missing A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jordan Mailata, and Landon Dickerson. Lane Johnson and Dallas Goedert also took less than 100% of their normal reps. Unable to rely on his patchwork offensive line to give him great protection, Hurts did well at times to work the quick game. He had a number of short completions in this regard. That said, he still had some reps where it looked like he held the ball for too long. Hurts had two nice downfield completions in 1-on-1s. He first dropped the ball in a bucket to Jahan Dotson to beat Quinyon Mitchell (!) and then to Terrace Marshall Jr. to beat Mac McWilliams. Hurts’ first passing attempt in team drills was a short completion to undrafted rookie Darius Cooper, whom he seems to be building trust with.
New Eagle John Metchie “trying to bring something to a team that was already so good” – PFT
“I’m just trying to bring something to the table,” Metchie said. “Trying to bring something to a team that was already so good.” Metchie said he’s close with Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith, who was his teammate at Alabama, and that Smith was the first person to call him after the trade became official.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Philadelphia Eagles seemed to dodge a potentially-big problem with Landon Dickerson, who is set to undergo a “minor” procedure on his meniscus after injuring his knee at training camp. Philadelphia’s offensive line is the engine that powers this machine, and with that unit healthy that offense remains a force to be reckoned with. The Eagles have some questions in the secondary, and have lost some key players on the defensive side of the ball, but there is every expectation that the Eagles will be contenders yet again.
Concerns? – Iggles Blitz
CB2 still isn’t settled. I thought Jakorian Bennett would be in the lead after the Browns game, but Adoree Jackson still gets most of the reps with the starters. You could make the argument that Vic Fangio loves him and that’s why he’s up there. But Fangio hasn’t said much publicly that would make you think he’s high on Jackson. I’m officially confused. I would be a lot more concerned about this if not for the combination of Fangio and Roseman. Fangio is a great DC. He has a lot of experience and knows what he’s looking for. Fangio played a pair of rookies last year and it worked great. He didn’t rush Cooper DeJean into the lineup. He wanted DeJean ready and waited until the bye week. I feel like Fangio is okay with what he’s got to work with, even if it isn’t ideal. Roseman is less patient to be sure. If he felt this was a critical issue, I think he would have made a move by now. I think Howie is trusting Fangio’s plan, while also knowing that moves can be made over the next week. Rosters get cut a week from now. There could be a veteran CB available at a reasonable price, or one could get cut.
Eagles young player’s bad summer has become a nightmare. Can he recover? – NJ.com
Jackson has not played great during training camp, but he has outplayed Kelee Ringo. Nobody has had a worst outcome than Ringo, who began today with the third-team defense and later received reps with the 2’s. Once considered the favorite to start, Ringo might be out of the running now. He didn’t receive first-team snaps for the second consecutive practice and has seemingly been demoted. He also practiced during the developmental period — not a good sign. On one of the last plays, Elijah Cooks beat Ringo toward the sideline for a catch. The Eagles must be disappointed with the third-year cornerback. Jackson has to hold off Jakorian Bennett for CB2, but he has the slight advantage because he’s been in the defense longer. But once Bennett feels comfortable — the former Raiders cornerback was traded to the Eagles two weeks ago — he could become the starter. The Eagles gave Bennett first-team reps in red-zone drills. Bennett could raise the ceiling of the defense, but Jackson is the safer choice.
Grading all 32 first-round rookies after preseason Week 2 – PFF
Pick No. 31: Philadelphia Eagles: LB Jihaad Campbell. Overall Rookie Grade: 78.1 (Rank: 9/47) Principal Opponent: Pierre Strong Jr. Preseason Week 2 Snaps: 29 Preseason Week 2 Grade: 85.0. Through two preseason weeks, Campbell certainly looks the part of an NFL linebacker. He was targeted in coverage twice, allowing just one reception for four yards. Campbell also shot through the A-gap on the second play of the game to pick up his first career sack. He didn’t play a starring role in run defense like last week, but he was consistently where he needed to be and didn’t pick up any negative grades either.
Bengals listening to Trey Hendrickson trade offers: Revisiting potential landing spots for star pass rusher – NFL.com
General manager Howie Roseman already swung a deal (for receiver John Metchie) in the last 48 hours and clearly isn’t afraid of working out a trade he believes might benefit his team. The Eagles also lost some beef in the offseason, watching Milton Williams and Josh Sweat leave for lucrative deals elsewhere. The Bryce Huff experiment didn’t work last season and 2025 is setting up as a season-long test of some of their younger rushers. It might not be the worst idea to add some proven insurance — and reliable production — in Hendrickson to a defense that was essential to Philly’s run to a Super Bowl triumph last season.

Players could order the BG, if they wanted crispy boys with a side of ribeye steak. Or they could order the Darren Sproles if they wanted a unique breakfast sandwich. But one of the common snacks after practice was something called the “Wolfpack,” which originated in 2016. The “Wolfpack” consisted of two grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon, seared ham, seared tomato, and a burger with three different kinds of cheese in between. “That was one of the most interesting sandwiches,” Lopez said. “And when you make a sandwich like that, if it’s a success, you’re going to be making like 60 more of them.”

NFC East betting preview: Can anyone overtake the Eagles? – ESPN
Commanders UNDER 9.5 wins (Even). Pamela Maldonado: Washington’s 12 wins last season were the product of a perfect storm: soft schedule, elite health, historic fourth-down luck and nine wins in one-score games. That’s a hard magic trick to pull off twice in row. This season’s schedule is tougher, and close-game regression is coming. Jayden Daniels is special, but the run game is shaky at the moment and the defense ranked 25th in EPA last season. A 9.5 win total suggests everything goes right again, but the arrow points the other way. Even money on the under is a sharp bet on reality setting in.
Washington Commanders Free Agency: Veteran OT George Fant signed – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders brought in several players for tryouts last week, including veteran OT George Fant. The visit went well, and the two sides reportedly stayed in contact. Fant has now reportedly agreed to terms on a free agent deal. Fant(6’5”, 315 lbs, 33 yo) has been in the NFL since the Seattle Seahawks signed him as an UDFA after the 2016 NFL draft. He joins an offensive line that continues to upgrade to protect second-year franchise QB Jayden Daniels. Laremy Tunsil is the LT after Washington traded for him, and they also drafted Josh Conerly Jr in the 1st round this year to move him to RT. Fant will get a week to show coaches what he’s still got before cutdown day on August 26th at 4 p.m. ET.
Adam Schefter: Cowboys, Micah Parsons headed for ‘divorce at some time’ – Blogging The Boys
We are now closer to the Dallas Cowboys beginning their season than we are to Micah Parsons’ public trade request from the team. Monday marked Hump Day in that regard (the middle point) and we are now officially over it and headed downhill. Maybe in more ways than one. On Monday it was noted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that there was no reason to think that the Cowboys and Parsons will get a deal done before the season opener on September 4th. You never want to hear that kind of thing, but those sorts of statements were made about Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in certain respects last year so it didn’t exactly cause panic. It may not be time to hit the actual button, but we might need to lift the glass casing that surrounds it. Schefter offered another note on this saga on Tuesday and it was caught by Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan. Schefter said that it sounds like the Cowboys and Parsons are headed for a divorce “at some time.”
Giants’ Andrew Thomas admits Lisfranc ‘tough injury to come back from’ – Big Blue View
The long-awaited day has finally come. The New York Giants have activated start left tackle Andrew Thomas off of the PUP list. The Giants announced Tuesday that Thomas has passed his physical and is returning to practice. “Today was the day that we were planning on working to get him back towards,” said head coach Brian Daboll. “We’ll take it slow, but the trainers did a really good job and AT’s done a nice job. We’ll just keep building him.”
