After a week twelve that saw some scares and one top ten upset, the newest college football playoff rankings have been released.
Prior Penn State opponents Ohio State and Indiana are still in the top three,
at numbers one and two; after being down big at the half against unranked South Carolina (and after many called them the top teams in the nation), Texas A&M is still #3.
The big change this week comes just outside the top three, where Alabama was last week. The Crimson Tide lost to Oklahoma (again) and now the two teams have somewhat flipped positions, with Kalen DeBoer’s squad at #10 and the Sooners now at #8. Former PSU opponent Oregon is still in the top ten at #7, and Georgia (#4), Texas Tech (#5), Ole Miss (#6), and Notre Dame (#9) round out the top ten.
Fellow Big Ten teams USC (#15), Michigan (#18), and Illinois (#21) all join Oregon, IU, and OSU in the rankings. Pitt dropped out of the rankings after a showing that Pat Narduzzi apologized for against the Irish last weekend.
The Nittany Lions, with their losing streak snapped, aren’t used to not being in these rankings this late in the season; they still have much to play for this week, though, as they take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers to play their way into bowl eligibility.
