Floyd Mayweather will end his retirement from boxing later this year when he’ll rematch Manny Pacquiao this September, but it looks like he’ll be looking to shake some rust off before then as Sky Sports reports that he’s due to first take part in a exhibition bout against former kickboxer Mike Zambidis this June in Athens, Greece. If you’re getting a strange sense of deja vu, it’s because it was also just recently announced that Oleksandr Usyk will be also fighting another former kickboxer in the coming
months.
“2026 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for me,” Mayweather said. “Europe, I’m on the way to entertain.”
Admittedly, I can’t tell you all that much about Zambidis other than he’s a 45-year-old former kickboxer who hasn’t fought in over a decade, but participated in one professional boxing match back in 2019, winning a four round decision over a very low-level opponent.
Mayweather, on the other hand, is an all-time great boxer and while time may have eroded some of his physical gifts, he’s still far and away more skilled in the ring than any fighter who can’t even be counted as a true professional in this particular sport.
