After downgrading running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver A.J. Brown to out, the New England Patriots traveled to Hard Rock Stadium with insurance at both positions.
The organization promoted running back Lan Larison to the 53-man roster and elevated wide receiver Ryan Miller from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
Larison, 24, will serve as the third option in the running back room behind Rhamondre Stevenson and Corey Kiner after an illness thinned the depth
chart. The 5-foot-11, 209-pound change of pace reverted to the practice squad in September after making his NFL debut versus the Seattle Seahawks. He caught two passes for nine yards and averaged 24.5 yards per kickoff return in the Super Bowl LX rematch, handling three snaps on offense and six snaps on special teams.
Arriving in Foxborough as an undrafted free agent in 2025, Larison spent his rookie campaign on injured reserve following a foot injury. The UC Davis product cleared waivers at the 53-man deadline in August and was retained on the 17-man scout team at its formation. Two months later, he takes the open spot on the active roster.
Miller, 26, signed to the Patriots’ practice squad midway through October after Romeo Doubs joined fellow veteran target Mack Hollins on injured reserve. The 6-foot-2, 217-pound standard call-up will head back to his former stomping grounds as the fourth healthy wide receiver behind DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III and Kyle Williams.
Currently ranking fifth on the Dolphins in receiving yards, Miller reeled in a season-long, 77-yard touchdown from quarterback Malik Willis before making his way to Gillette Stadium. Originally entering the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2023, the Furman alum spent three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being claimed off waivers by the New York Giants and then by Miami during training camp. He has appeared in 30 NFL games, including six starts, while totaling 17 receptions for 254 yards and four touchdowns.
Linebacker Christian Elliss and cornerback Carlton Davis III move forward with questionable game statuses for the Patriots following the downgrades, while offensive tackle Marcus Bryant will remain on injured reserve for the divisional matchup.
Sunday’s kickoff in Miami Gardens is set for 4:25 p.m. ET.
