When the Broncos signed Dre Greenlaw back in March, Denver was expecting a fast, physical, and instinctive linebacker to set the tone for a defense in need of some wallop. Needless to say, as we enter week 9, the Broncos are still looking for that impactful presence.
Blame a nagging quad injury. For the first 6-weeks of the season, Greenlaw was sidelined, trying to get back onto the field. He made an appearance against the Giants in week 7, notching 6 tackles (1 solo, 5 assisted), but demonstrated
a lack of judgement when he really needed to share a few choice words for a referee, buying himself the 1-game suspension that kept him out of Sunday’s game against Dallas.
As we enter week 9, Broncos Country is ready to see what Denver has in Dre Greenlaw. The ‘will he or won’t he play’ rollercoaster this season has featured is tiring and annoying. It’s been a long time since there has been this much focus on a fella who doesn’t seem to play.
Call it what you want or call it Ja’Wuan James PTSD, but eagerness to see him on the field is giving way to annoyance at the multiple ways he’s managed to stay off of it. So far, the Dre Greenlaw signing has all the hallmarks of an acquisition that doesn’t seem to be working out, but that could, hopefully, change as we enter the second half of the season.
If Greenlaw can stay healthy and leave the refs alone, the Broncos might have that tone-setter they so desperately need. With Patrick Surtain nursing injuries, now would be a great time for Dre to carry some of the defensive responsibility. It’s week 9, time to quit farting around and let Broncos Country see what Dre Greelaw can do in orange and blue.
