Ohio State plays football THIS WEEK!
The Buckeyes are back in action on Saturday, and while the coaches are hard at work on final preparations for the season opener against Ball State, the recruiting grind never stops.
Over the weekend, Ohio State made the cut for four-star cornerback Ca’ron Williams. The 5-foot-11 prospect out of California cut his list from more than two dozen offers down to a final 12, with the Buckeyes among his smaller group alongside LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas and
others.
The top defensive back out of his home state of California, Williams is the No. 19 CB and No. 187 overall player in the 2028 class per the 247Sports Composite. The Santa Margarita Catholic standout earned his Ohio State offer during a visit this past April, leaving Columbus impressed with the program and the staff.
“I had a great visit,” Williams said. “I liked the school, the facilities and the stadium was amazing. I had a chance to watch practice and that was the high point of the visit. What really stood out was the level of talent out there. The competition, the energy and the coaching was fun to watch. It was high intensity the whole practice.”
Ohio State clearly made enough of an impression to make his top schools list, and Williams was also already looking forward to making a return for a game day atmosphere in the future.
“I had a great meeting with Coach Walton, the corners coach, too. It was a great first visit but I definitely plan to get back for a game. I have to experience that game day atmosphere at the Shoe.”
Williams is coming off a pair of impressive campaigns in his freshman and sophomore seasons. After posting 45 tackles with two TFLs and three pass breakups in 2024-25, Williams picked off three passes — including a pick-six — with 47 tackles and four pass breakups in 2025-26.
While Williams has yet to officially schedule that return visit just yet, players across the country are rapidly adding trips to Columbus to the docket.
One of those guys is current Ohio State commit DJ Jacobs. The No. 1 EDGE and No. 1 overall player in the 2027 class per 247Sports, Jacobs has been committed to the Buckeyes since December, and he now plans to make three trips to games this season.
This is a massive development for Larry Johnson and company, as holding on to Jacobs’ commitment will be one of the biggest storylines as we get closer and closer to National Signing Day. Jacobs is the crown jewel of a strong 2027 class as one of three five-stars committed to the Buckeyes, joining wide receiver Jamier Brown and defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou.
Ohio State will get no shortage of opportunities to make Jacobs and his family as comfortable as possible with their decision to further his playing career in Columbus. In an era dominated by NIL and outside factors playing a heavy hand in recruitments, this battle is far from over, but is a must-win for Johnson and Ryan Day.
Elsewhere, Ohio State will also get a visit in the near future from 2028 DL Kellan Hall. Similar to Jacobs, Hall is among the elite of the elite up front, ranking as the No. 1 DL and No. 2 overall player in the cycle per the 247Sports Composite.
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Kentucky native is scheduled to see the Buckeyes on Oct. 10, when Ohio State will play host to Maryland. Hall recently visited Ohio State for a recruiting camp earlier this year, where he got to work hands on with his potential future position coach.
“Some camps like to just see you work out, but Coach Johnson, he gets after you today,” Hall said after the camp. “He treats you like a player, and you really get after it. It wasn’t too hot, but it felt like a great work day. I felt like I was one of his players today.”
“He said I can be a do-it-all type of guy… He said I have traits like [Chase Young],” Hall continued. “Just hearing the stories, players saying [Young] had to sit out of practice because of how bad he was doing them and just seeing that, that’s a high honor to get paired with someone like that who’s probably one of the greatest D-linemen to ever do it.”
Hall has yet to release an official top schools list, but the 10 schools on his schedule this visit season would appear to be among his favorites out of his nearly 30 offers. The Buckeyes are one of many, but will look to make a lasting impact this Fall.
