Babe, wake up. A fresh non-update update on Julián Álvarez’s future has arrived! The biggest soap opera of the summer has a new (sort of) twist.
According to MARCA, Julián has contacted Atlético Madrid to receive his individual training plan for this week before he officially rejoins the squad next Monday.
Every Atlético player at the World Cup received individual training plans to follow on their own under the club’s supervision, and Álvarez will follow the club’s guidelines and is widely expected
to report back on August 10th.
Julián has been radio silent since his bombshell transfer request over a month ago, and Barça’s initial €100 million offer expired at the end of July. The Blaugrana are expecting another public gesture from Álvarez to help convince Atlético to sell, and next week will be key in solving the issue.
Álvarez has always had Barça as his number one destination but Arsenal had been strongly pushing for a transfer as well, with Atlético hoping to land striker Viktor Gyökeres as part of the deal.
But Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made it clear over the weekend Gyökeres will not leave the club, and the Gunners appear fully focused on securing a move for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. and thus look to have dropped out of the race for Álvarez.
