We’ve got some good news and some bad news to end your weekend!
The bad news: the Bruins lost again!
The good(ish) news: at least they got a point this time!
Porter Martone scored his first NHL goal 2:31 into overtime to give the Flyers a 2-1 win over the Bruins, propelling the home team from out of the playoff picture all the way into third in the Metropolitan Division.
Martone’s goal came on a 5-on-3 power play, as the Bruins took two penalties in seven seconds to effectively sink their own ship.

Zacha scored the lone goal for the Bruins early in the third period, while Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves in the loss — and really deserved a better fate.
Christian Dvorak got the scoring started four minutes into the game, beating Korpisalo on the rush to make it 1-0 Flyers.
That would remain the score until the start of the third period, where Zacha collected a loose puck at the top of the crease and lifted it over Dan Vladar to make it a 1-1 game.
Martone sent the Philly fans home happy with a good second-effort goal from the slot. Not a bad way to score your first NHL goal, eh?

Game notes
- Things aren’t going great at the moment, folks! The B’s are now 0-2-1 in their last three games, going from a giant two-win weekend last week to just one point out of four this weekend.
- What a game for Porter Martone. The 19-year-old forward set up the Flyers’ first goal and ended it in OT with his first-ever NHL goal. He nearly gave the Flyers the lead multiple times late in the third period too, only to be denied by Korpisalo. He now has 1G-2A-3PTS in his first four NHL games.
- Speaking of Korpisalo, he made three or four huge saves in the last ten minutes of the third period to even get the Bruins to overtime. Were it not for Korpisalo’s strong play, the Bruins would have left Philadelphia with nothing.
- It’s probably a little unnecessary to pile on, but David Pastrnak had a truly miserable overtime. He turned the puck over on his first shift, leading to an odd-man rush for Philly. On his next shift, he turned the puck over again, waterskied behind Dvorak to try to haul him down, only to allow the breakaway anyways. Korpisalo ended up making the save, but that penalty was the beginning of the end for the B’s. It’s not worth harping on, but was another case of Pastrnak simply trying to do too much.
- The Bruins’ offense had another inept showing on the afternoon. The B’s have managed just one goal in each of their last three games, so it’s not exactly a shock that all three have ended up in the L (or OTL) column. Today, the B’s had just three shots in the first period and five in the third, so it’s not exactly like they’re humming and just not finding the back of the net.
- It’s a “take it or leave it” kind of stat based on how different scorekeepers calculate it, but the Bruins were credited with 18 giveaways on the day.
The road doesn’t get much easier for the Bruins, as they’ll visit the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh on Tuesday night.
After that: at home against Tampa, on the road against Columbus, and at home against New Jersey.
Four games to go, and in a playoff spot, but the vibes aren’t exactly immaculate at the moment.
