Tottenham Hotspur Women are FLYING to start the 2026-27 WSL season. In league play, Spurs have opened their first four games with three wins and a draw, which doesn’t entirely tell the story — although they earned a 1-1 draw away against a tricky Liverpool side in week 2, their wins have been utterly dominant. Spurs have rolled to a 3-1 win vs. West Ham, a 7-0 dismantling of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, and most recently a 4-0 shellacking of Aston Villa.
That most recent win proved to be the straw
that broke the camel’s back for Aston Villa — the club announced today that they have sacked head coach Natalie Arroyo.
It’s not just because Spurs beat them handily — despite some initial optimism ahead of the season, Villa have started the WSL campaign winless in four matches with two points, putting them just ahead of Charlton at the bottom of the table. Arroyo, who previously managed Real Sociedad Femenino, had been in charge at Villa since January 2025. Villa technical director Brian Sørensen will take charge on an interim basis.
Spurs notably poached Villa’s 2025-26 leading scorer Kirsty Hanson from them this summer which so far has proven to be a very astute signing for Tottenham, who have real ambitions to gate-crash the top four this season. It’s obviously not good news for Villa, but isn’t it nice to have a Tottenham team that plays so well they can get their opposition managers fired? Feels like we haven’t had that in a long time. Martin Ho is That Guy™.
