Ohio State has really increased its efforts to recruit 2028 defensive edge rushers. Offering three alone on Wednesday, Thursday brough another offer to the position, and coming from a familiar program.
Making their presence known once again at Baylor School in Tennessee, Ohio State is quickly becoming a frequent visitor. With it paying off once already, the staff is hoping that stays the case in both 2027 and now in 2028 as well.
The school that gave Ohio State Max LeBlanc in the 2025 class, the Buckeyes are hard at work in 2027 for running back David Gabriel Georges, and now in 2028 too courtesy of Braxton Rein.
Earning his offer on Thursday, the 6-foot-6, 240 pound athlete adds the Buckeyes to a short list of schools to offer, which includes Vanderbilt and Louisville. With Ohio State now officially in the running, it’s only a matter of time before other top programs come calling.
The No. 43 player nationally and sixth best edge rusher per the 247Sports Composite, Ohio State recruiting his high school as often as they are gives the staff ample time to build a strong relationship, and it looks like that’s the plan moving forward.
Ohio State also checked in at IMG Academy, this time by way of class of 2028 linebacker target, Andre Alexander Jr. Landing his offer from the Buckeyes on Thursday, position coach James Laurinaitis has proven he can recruit with the best of them, and now has his eyes set on the future cycles.
A 6-foot-1, 210 pound linebacker, Alexander is seeing the recruiting attention increase as of late with new offers coming weekly. Ohio State among the latest to join the fold, other schools such as USC have also offered in the past week. The No. 112 player nationally and seventh best linebacker per the 247Sports Composite, the Buckeyes are looking once again at the Sunshine State to help give them the depth and talent they covet.
Watching Ohio State’s linebacker unit currently, you’d have to imagine it appeals to top recruits, and being coached by a former Buckeye and NFL veteran helps that much more. The defensive side of the ball has been a major piece as to why the team is the top-ranked program in the country, and recruiting has a lot to do with where they’re at.

Onto the hardwood, Ohio State is still in the mix for five-star Anthony Thompson. An Ohio native, Thompson’s latest recruitment update includes his commitment date set for Oct. 21. The No. 8 player nationally and second best at his position per the 247Sports Composite, Ohio State will have to fight off Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, and Texas for his services.
In just two weeks time, the Buckeyes will know if they are the destination. If so, it’s a game-changing type of addition.
