Bayern Munich is back to winning ways in the Bundesliga by beating newly-promoted side SV Elversberg 2-1 thanks to goals from Lennart Karl and Harry Kane. Joshua Kimmich didn’t start this match, only coming on in the 65th minute. In doing so, he made his 500th appearance for the Bavarians in all competitions. He draws level with club icon Bastian Schweinsteiger who made his 500th appearance in his farewell match in 2015:
Kimmich is obviously well behind birthday boy Thomas Müller, but the 31-year-old midfielder is in good company. Apart from Müller, the only other active player in that list is current Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, with 602 appearances over 14 years.
Kimmich added another level to Bayern’s game in Elversberg, particularly in a game where the Rekordmeister struggled against the vivacious Saarland team. With another win under the belt, Kimmich and Bayern will be going again next weekend at home to Union Berlin.
