First round rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper is returning to practice this week per Jets head coach Aaron Glenn.
Cooper suffered a high ankle sprain in the team’s Week 1 victory over the Tennessee Titans and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. This forced him to sit out at least four weeks. This is the earliest he is eligible to return.
Cooper can now practice with
the team for up to 21 days without taking up a spot on the 53 man roster. If the Jets want to activate him for the Week 6 game against the Patriots or any game before the window ends, however, he will need to be placed on the active roster.
The injury news is not so good for a number of other banged up Jets starters.
Week-to-week generally suggests these are longer term injuries, and these players are less likely to be in the lineup this coming Sunday.
