Happy Monday, errrrrrrrrrbody. Hope your weeks have gotten off to a great start.
As usual, it’s time to cobble together the random Miami Hurricanes-ness that’s floating around in my brain. Let’s get to it…
1) It’s fall camp/overreaction/highlight clip szn, and big Miami OL Joel Irvin did the damn thing over the weekend with one rep.
Ervin absolutely dominated Asharri Charles (I believe) and took him for a ride. This gave me vibes of watching Michael Oher take the opposing defensive lineman all the way
down the field in the movie The Blind Side and deposit him over the fence.
It’s just one rep, and I we don’t know exactly how the offensive line is going to fill out this month, but that’s top-level stuff right there. Top notch.
2) Speaking of impressive stuff, just look at Jordan Lyle.
Like, just look at how he appears now. He’s big. He looks like a damned linebacker.
Lyle got hit with just a dose of terrible luck last year with the injury against Notre Dame, and Mark Fletcher, Jr. and Marty Brown emerged as a truly remarkable one-two combination, with some Girard Pringle sprinkled in there as well.
Now, you’re bringing Lyle back into the mix. Like I said, he at least LOOKS bigger from what I’ve seen, and if it hasn’t cost him a step……..all I can say is it’s a shame Miami can’t put more running backs on the field than they do. What a silly-good collection of players they have back there (again).
3) What Miami WON’T have in 2026 caught my eye when I was flipping through Twitter this past week.
Rueben Bain, Jr. was a monster on the field, but he was also a monster off of it while inside the Hurricanes’ facility. He talked recently about what he did when someone in the defensive line room missed watching film: they had to meet him on the practice field in the end zone to roll the length of the field.
“You the alpha male of the group?”
“Something like that.”
God, Miami is going to miss that this year. I hope someone steps into that defensive leadership role, as nearly impossible as that seems.
4) I thought you all could use a good laugh on a Monday, so here you go.
Miami being behind in their wide receiver and RB rooms is the one that cracks me up the most, as well as Miami having just a “slight edge” at the QB position between Darian Mensah and Ashton Daniels.
I don’t know if that post is a troll or not (I don’t think it is, which is why I shared it), but I can’t even imagine having that level of pure cockeyed optimism when Miami was in the toilet and prime FSU was rolling in.
I’ll never count FSU out in that series for obvious reasons (hint: it’s a rivalry game), but having that kind of belief is setting this particular user up for Charlie Brown running up to kick the football from underneath Lucy’s finger.
Go Canes!
