No. 18 TCU returned to Schollmaier Arena for a thrilling five-set match against No. 8 SMU on Wednesday. Behind 20 kills from Becca Kelley, 17 kills from Evan Hendrix and 40 assists from Rosemary Archer, the Horned Frogs overcame a fourth-set defeat, taking the fifth and final set by three points in a 16-25, 25-22, 25-16, 26-28, 15-12 victory. TCU (2-1) hit .294 as a team and Kinsley Young anchored the front-row defense with nine blocks.
Jalyn Gibson contributed 10 kills and Alice Volpe led the back-row defense with 20 digs for the Horned Frogs, who played in front of over 2,000 fans on their new Taraflex court. Kelley hit .311 and Hendrix hit .351 to lead the TCU attack. De’Andrea McMillan added seven blocks and Young posted six kills on a .400 hitting rate from the middle position. Reese Robins chipped in five blocks and Kelley followed with four for the front-row defense.
TCU held SMU to a .204 hitting rate and posted 19.5 blocks compared to just five for the Mustangs. Reese Wilburn aided the Horned Frog attack with 13 assists. Gibson, returning from an ACL injury she suffered last season, dug up nine balls and finished one shy of earning a double-double. Hendrix added eight digs.
