Paul Wight, best known to WWE fans as The Big Show, has not competed in a ring for more than two years, but he said recently that doesn’t mean his wrestling career is over just yet.
Wight appeared on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio UK to promote AEW’s upcoming All In London, which will take place on August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
During the interview, Wight discussed his current work for AEW, where he has been under contract since 2021 after more than two decades with WWE.
At one point
during the conversation, Evans asked the seven-foot giant if fans will ever see him wrestle again.
“Yes! Do you know the absolute H-E-double hockey sticks [spelling out ‘hell’] I’ve gone through to get back in the ring?” Wight replied.
“I don’t have to do much at this stage of the game. I’m not competing for championships, I’m not pulling the wagon, working every week,” he said. “I have a great opportunity with All Elite Wrestling, which was very important to me, to be able to help mentor some of the younger talent when they want it, tell them some stories to help them avoid some troubles in life, do the commentating where I can help explain what they’re doing and help develop their characters, and then get in the ring.”
Wight continued: “There are things that I can do in the ring working with them that I know will help them. It’s fun for me, because I don’t have to do much. I make the joke I’m like Snake Plissken from [the film] Escape from New York. You know, everybody says, ‘Hey, man. I heard you were dead.’ No, I’m still alive.
“I show up once in a while, everybody’s happy. I come over here, get a nice little pop from the crowd, ‘Oh, we remember him back when he had long hair and a bright future. We’re glad he’s still doing well.’”
