In a turn of events, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has hired new representation and is filing for reinstatement, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Aiyuk, who has been on the Reserve/Left Squad list all season, recently hired Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent this week, as he looks forward to returning to the football field for the first time in two years.
“Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has turned in paperwork to be reinstated, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” Schefter tweeted. “Aiyuk,
who is currently on San Francisco’s Reserve/Left Squad list, will be reporting to the 49ers’ training facility Friday afternoon, per Drew Rosenhaus.”
“Brandon is healthy and ready to get back on the field,” Rosenhaus said.
This development speeds up San Francisco’s timeline with Aiyuk, as Schefter added that the 49ers now need to keep him (under his current contract), find a trade partner, or release him before Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Aiyuk is finally turning things around after a bizarre offseason following his sitting out the entire 2025 campaign after the 49ers voided around $27 million worth of guarantees. He had hinted for much of the offseason that he would sign with the Washington Commanders, even flaunting their gear on social media, while publicly calling out Jayden Daniels.
Washington ended up signing wide receiver Stefon Diggs before the season started, ruling out the need for Aiyuk.
Following his erratic behavior this offseason, it’s unclear if there’d be any real suitors for Aiyuk this season, but he could have his options in front of him by next Tuesday’s trade deadline following his reinstatement filing.
