When Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovač take a gander over at his old club, he cannot hide that is blown away by what Bayern Munich is doing this season.
“The way Bayern are performing this season
is unique. That shows the difficulty and the quality. We know the significance of this game [for the table], but we’re focused on ourselves. What Bayern are doing is great, but we want to pick up where we left off before the international break. It’s a tough challenge, but we’re up for it,” said Kovač (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I think if you act with too much fear in Munich, it will be difficult. All teams that just try to defend don’t fare well. Bayern’s quality is simply too high for that. We have to defend well and also look for our chance to attack. They also know that we played very well there last season. We have to show that again tomorrow. We have to invest a lot in Munich and focus on ourselves. Of course, we’re aware of that and Bayern’s form. They’ve won all 10 of their games.”
Kovač seems to have the right approach — respect Bayern Munich, but do not get caught being in awe of the Bavarians. The coach knows this could be a statement win for his team…can it actually happen?
