The Steelers escaped Dublin with a 24-21 win over the Vikings despite a handful of injuries in the secondary.
In his postgame press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin provided updates on four Steelers who
were injured during the game. Wide receiver Calvin Austin III suffered a shoulder injury that Tomlin said he thought was being evaluated in the hospital. Austin reportedly left the game in an ambulance, although PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh pointed out that it was likely because Croke Park, where the Steelers were playing, lacks an X-ray machine.
Tomlin said the injury that kept veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey in and out of the game was a hamstring. Cornerback Brandin Echols, who left the game with what looked like a non-contact injury, was cramping. And Darius Slay, the third Steelers cornerback to get hurt, was cleated, per Tomlin.
“We were leaking a bit in the secondary,” said Tomlin.
Beyond the injuries suffered in-game, the Steelers were also without starting outside linebacker Alex Highsmith, starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr., and starting running back Jaylen Warren.
The Steelers have a number of current injuries in the secondary, but the team doesn’t play football for another two weeks due to an early Week 5 bye.
