And now for a third time this season, Tennessee and Vanderbilt will meet on the hardwood — this time with the stakes much higher. The Volunteers came storming back yesterday against Auburn, powered by a brilliant performance from Nate Ament. Tennessee was down by double digits at one point, but found a way to put the clamps down late to win.
They’ll now advance to face the Commodores yet again, with the season series split at one win each. Vanderbilt came to Knoxville and won just a week ago, beating
the Volunteers who were playing without Ament once again. Ament proved how important he was yesterday, pouring in 27 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Vanderbilt held Ament to just 13 points on 3-13 shooting in Tennessee’s win in Nashville.
Both sides are projected No. 5 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, each obviously with a chance to move up with a win or two more.
