The NFL’s Nov. 4 trade deadline is right around the corner.
As the New England Patriots currently find themselves at 4-2 and in first place in the AFC East, they have an opportunity to be aggressive and bolster
the roster through the trade market for a potential playoff push.
Head coach Mike Vrabel, however, would not unveil the team’s plans.
“I don’t know if [our record] has a bearing on it,” he said Wednesday. “We’re just going to continue to try to strengthen the roster each and every day. Sometimes those are small moves, maybe bigger ones.”
Entering the trade deadline, New England finds themselves with their full haul of 2026 draft picks in addition to an additional fourth- (via a draft-day trade), sixth- (Joshua Uche trade), and seventh-round pick (Davon Godchaux trade).
While the results have come quickly in year one under Mike Vrabel, the coach is making sure to remember the long-term picture as well.
“I don’t think that right now, our conversations are centered around what our record is currently. I don’t think that that’s something that really bears into it. We’re building something,” Vrabel added. “And if any of those things can help us build and strengthen us, allow us for long-term consistent success. I think that’s what we should try to do.”
The current roster could use upgrades, with the running back position being one position atop that list. New England’s run game ranks last in football in success rate and EPA per run while their backs rank near the bottom of the league when it comes to breaking tackles.
In the division, the winless New York Jets could look to move on Breece Hall in a contract year. Other potential backs buried on their respective teams depth chart include Jerome Ford, Dameon Pierce, Devin Singletary, and Roschon Johnson.
The Patriots could also look to make upgrades on the defensive side of the football, with depth in the secondary and at linebacker/edge rusher perhaps being a target.
