Alphonso Davies’ injury torn 2025/26 season at Bayern Munich was really hard for all to watch. He missed most of the Hinrunde (first half of the season) due to an ACL tear he suffered in Canada’s 2-1 victory over the USA in the CONCACAF Nations League third place match. He made his return just before the start of 2026, but the resulting minute management was all for naught as he suffered a hamstring strain against Atalanta in the Champions League Round of 16. After recovering, Davies then hurt his hamstring again in the second
leg against Paris Saint Germain.
That second injury suddenly saw his 2026 World Cup participation put into major doubt. Given the tournament is joint-hosted by Canada, Davies was surely never going to let a chance at participating in a home World Cup go.
Sure enough, Canada’s captain has ramped up his recovery in recent days and has started training with the ball just before the start of the tournament:
As mentioned above, Canada will take on Bosnia in their opening World Cup fixture. Canada head Jesse Marsch has already indicated Davies will not play in this match, but his participation in the rest of the group stage matches remains open as of now. Further updates will arrive as the World Cup progresses.
