Morgan Rogers seems to love an early goal, and he almost got another one last night, in England’s Nations League match against the Czech Republic in Prague. Unfortunately for our record-signing, his curling shot in the fifteenth minute found only woodwork.
That early goal could’ve been useful as the Three Lions instead had to wait until the second half to open the scoring, by which time the hosts had been reduced to ten. Rogers would be involved in England’s second on the night, with Harry Kane poaching
in the right spot at the right time after the ball ran loose from a tackle on Rogers, who had made an excellent diagonal run across the top of the box.
Rogers would play the full-9o in what Thomas Tuchel called an “unglamorous” victory, as would the all-ex-Chelsea defensive pairing of Marc Guéhi and Trevoh Chalobah (with Lewis Hall starting at left back).
Earlier in the day, on the opposite side of the world, young Estêvão got another runout for Brazil, coming off the bench on the hour-mark against Australia in Brisbane (not a typo: a rematch of last week’s game).
While the 19-year-old was kept off the scoresheet, he would help the Seleção turn a 2-2 draw into a 4-2 win in the final thirty minutes.
