Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are the stories you need to know as the Giants get set to hit the road to Washington this week.

But he did say that J.J. McCarthy — an intriguing third-year quarterback just acquired via a trade — could be the backup for the game, rather than the third stringer. “I think that’s a possibility,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll see how it goes
during the week, but that’s definitely on the table.”
For all of McCarthy’s flaws — and he has plenty — his mobility would let the Giants run the offense they envisioned running with Dart. And perhaps coordinator Matt Nagy could turn McCarthy into more of a game manager — within a run-focused offense — than Winston can be.

It is quite something that Deonte Banks made a game-sealing interception and en route to turning it into an emphatic pick-6, he reached a speed of 21.85 mph on his 98-yard return.
No ball carrier in the NFL has run faster than that this season, according to NextGen Stats.

Still, that’s too many times for Harbaugh’s liking. This past Sunday against Arizona, it was running back Najee Harris who coughed up the ball on the Cardinals’ 43 yard-line, killing a second-half drive. It amounted to nothing in the end, as Arizona ended up punting the ball back to the Giants, but it could have been a game-changer.
“Najee’s never been a guy that fumbles too much,” Harbaugh explained to reporters on Monday. “And sometimes you try too hard. Sometimes you try too hard to get the extra couple yards, to break out of the pile, to get the run game going. And then the ball becomes a little bit vulnerable in there, and I just think we just stick (to it). You watch what Skatt and Najee have been doing, too. But protect the ball at all costs.”
Early NFL All-Rookie Team: Which 2026 draft picks have excelled so far? | The Athletic
First team: Arvell Reese, Giants (Round 1, No. 5); Jacob Rodriguez, Dolphins (Round 2, No. 43). This is a crowded position for rookies, but Reese’s dominant performance against the Cardinals on Sunday clinched his spot on the first team.
The No. 1 prospect for me this past draft, Reese finished with nine tackles (all solo) and now leads the NFL (not just rookies) with 27 solo tackles. Reese also had a tackle for loss, three passes defended and his first career interception in Week 4. He is the NFL’s only non-defensive back with at least four passes defended and one interception this season.

The linebacker was nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week, the second time he has been up for the award in as many games, after he led the Giants with nine solo tackles, three passes defensed, one tackle for loss and his first career interception.
Fans can vote for Reese on Instagram or X (@NFL) through Thursday at 11 a.m. ET to determine who will bring home the championship belt for Week 4. The winner will be announced later that day. After the regular season, four players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors.

2. New York Giants (3-1). New York’s schedule isn’t daunting, but with a backup quarterback like Winston (or J.J. McCarthy), no game is guaranteed, which opens the doors for division rivals. Dallas is currently the betting favorite to win the division at +134 and does feel like the most complete team in the NFC East at the moment. The offense is tied for the second-highest scoring unit in the league, averaging 30.5 points per game. The Cowboys are also the fourth-best on third down (51.02%) and the third-best in the league in the red zone (81.25%) through the first month. Their defense is still a major question, but the addition of corner Joey Porter Jr. should help improve the secondary.
Buyers or Sellers for the NFL’s Most Surprising Teams 1 Month From Trade Deadline | Bleacher Report
New York Giants: Buyers. With quarterback Jaxson Dart on season-ending injured reserve, the New York Giants are going through the Jameis Winston experience and still winning games. Currently atop the NFC East, Big Blue should bring in a veteran quarterback in case Winston implodes with turnovers. Keep in mind that J.J. McCarthy struggled in his second season, which was his first year as a starter with the Minnesota Vikings. He may not be equipped to take over on short notice in New York.
Because of Brian Burns’ season-ending knee injury, the Giants should also look to add an edge-rusher, which is ironic given all the trade buzz around Kayvon Thibodeaux this past offseason. Versatile rookie first-rounder Arvell Reese has pass-rushing ability, but he’s a starting inside linebacker alongside Tremaine Edmunds.
