According to a report from Sky Germany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Manchester City is expected to make a strong effort at getting Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany. However, convincing Bayern Munich to let the Belgian move back to England might not be all that easy:
Vincent Kompany is one of the options being considered by Manchester City to replace Pep Guardiola, should the latter leave the club. Bayern are aware that City are very interested in their former captain. However, a departure
this summer is currently not a topic. Kompany has just extended his contract until 2029 with no release clause. The Belgian has a very good relationship with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund. Several players, such as Dayot Upamecano, have extended their contracts mainly because of him.
In recent weeks, Pep Guardiola has looked…zapped. While it remains to be seen if the normally boisterous Spaniard is going to come back for another season, City probably does not want to risk not having a formal succession plan.
Getting Kompany would be ideal for Manchester City, but Bayern Munich has been known to dig in and stand firm. If the Bavarians are not okay with letting Kompany go, the club will not let it happen.
