This is unfortunate.
The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
- Reinstated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Reno following their game yesterday; recalled from Reno today: C Adrian Del Castillo (strained left calf)
- Selected from Reno: RHP Taylor Rashi
- Placed on 10-day injured list: INF/OF Jordan Lawlar (fractured right wrist)
- Designated for assignment: RHP Joe Ross
As if last night’s game wasn’t sucky enough already. Lawlar was hit on the wrist last night, by a pitch in the seventh inning from the Braves’ Osvaldo Bido. Initial X-rays proved negative at the time, but we might want to put that machine in for a service. Because it turns out he does indeed have a fracture, and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. It’s interesting that they brought up Castillo
as a replacement, considering Lawlar has been getting all his playing time in the outfield. I imagine we’ll be going with a mix of Tim Tawa and Jorge Barrosa alongside Corbin Carroll and Alek Thomas. In case you’re wondering why they didn’t go with Ryan Waldschmidt:
Piecoro also noted, “Waldschmidt also hasn’t been raking in Triple-A Reno. Teams do their best to bring guys up when they’re swinging it well and ready to excel in the majors.” Not his time yet, it appears. The other move is not unexpected, Joe Ross having looked pretty dismal over his appearances. He allowed seven hits and four walks, resulting in eight earned runs over a mere 3.2 innings of work. That’s an ERA of 19.64, and even though his FIP was more than ten runs lower, that still came in at 8.88. I’m pretty sure Rashi will be able to do better, just because the bar has been set so low.
