According to a report from Bild journalists Julian Agardi and Michel Schröer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany holds the opinion of midfielder Joshua Kimmich in high esteem:
Vincent Kompany places particular importance on the opinion of vice-captain Joshua Kimmich. The coach often seeks advice from Kimmich in order to get a sense of what is happening within the team and gauge the atmosphere in the dressing room.
Kompany has made it clear that leadership at Bayern
Munich extends well beyond the coaching staff and Kimmich seems to be the player whose voice is the loudest.
As indicated in the report, Kompany regularly turns to Kimmich for insight into what is happening inside the squad, using the experienced midfielder as something of a bridge between the coaching staff and the dressing room. It is not simply about tactics or what happens on the pitch. Kimmich’s understanding of the personalities within the squad gives Kompany another perspective on the mood and dynamics of the team.
That relationship can be especially valuable over the course of a long season, when small issues can develop quickly and maintaining a positive atmosphere becomes just as important as preparing for the next opponent.
Kimmich has been at Bayern Munich long enough to understand the expectations that come with playing for the club, while his role as vice-captain gives him an obvious leadership responsibility. Kompany appears to recognize that experience and uses it to stay connected to the group.
Rather than relying solely on his own observations, the Bayern Munich coach wants to know how the players are feeling and what is happening behind the scenes.
And when Kompany wants that inside perspective, Kimmich is one of the first people he consults.
