OFFENSE: RAMS
The Rams offense finally showed its potential in a 28-6 win over the Giants on MNF in Week 2. Matthew Stafford thew 4 touchdowns, two to Davante Adams and one apiece to Kyren Williams and Terrance Ferguson. The tandem of Kyren Williams and Blake Corum appears strong. The most underrated part of this offense is probably the offensive line that features two undrafted free agents, one fourth round selection (Pittsburgh Steelers), one fifth round selection, and one second round selection.
Denver’s best
part of their offense is their own offensive line; headlined by Quinn Meinerz and Garrett Bolles. But its the mediocre play of Bo Nix that has limited the Broncos offense thus far.
Matthew Stafford is simply the difference when comparing both offenses. #9 is capable of making big time throws in big time moments. Bo Nix might get there but that’s the future and we are talking the present…
DEFENSE: BRONCOS
LA’s defense had a nice showing from the defensive line to linebackers to secondary in their win. It helps when Aaron Donald returns and injects energy into the entire building.
Denver’s defense has had the challenge of Kansas City and Jacksonville, the #3 and #15 scoring offenses in the league. Los Angeles’s defense might be better on paper long-term with the eventual return of Myles Garrett, but right now the Denver defense gets small edge.
SPECIAL TEAMS: BRONCOS
Unfortunately, the Rams hope of retooling their special teams during the offseason just has not worked. Through two weeks, there are still issues. In Week 1, the kickoff coverage allowed a big return to Deebo Samuel. In Week 2, Harrison Mevis missed a field goal, while Ethan Evans shanked a short punt.
At this point, we might just want to call this the John Fassel Special Teams Curse.
COACHING: RAMS
The Battle of Seans. Sean McVay holds a 2-1 edge over Sean Payton but all those games were Payton with the Saints. Looking under the hood, its Sean McVay’s HTH record against defensive coordinator Vance Joseph that could be the matchup to watch for X’s and O’s. McVay is 9-2 against Joseph. Joseph never had as talented of a group in Arizona that he does not in Denver, so that is something to consider as well.
