Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé spoke to the media ahead of France’s game against Azerbaijan on Friday. He was asked about how he has settled in Madrid, and the differences between living there and in Paris, to which he said: “I have settled well in Madrid, I’m a little more relaxed there. This isn’t an attack on France. The lifestyle is different, it’s less hectic than in Paris. I’ve managed to get my head and legs back in place.”
Mbappé on playing for the national team
For us players, it is the most important thing; it is priceless
to play for the national team. Everything went well in Madrid, it was very clear communication. I have something in my ankle, but I said I wanted to play.”
Mbappé on playing with injury
“I want to play. The coach wants me to play. I don’t think there’s a major problem. I feel fine. We have talked. There’s no particular concern. I want to play and qualify for the World Cup. That’s all.”
Mbappé on what has changed from last season
“I think it’s a new season, we’ve been able to rest more and prepare better. I’ve started the season well. It’s just the debut of a very long season. I started well, I put all the ingredients in place to start well. We’re feeling good with the team, despite the game against Atlético. We’re understanding what the coach is asking of us. I’ve also started well with the national team. I think I can improve and I’m working towards that.”
Mbappé on wearing the number 10 for France
“I think when you look at the players who have worn this number, I don’t forget it. They are players who have left their mark on different generations. Platini left his mark, Zidane his too. I try to leave my mark. It’s an important number in the national team, even if it doesn’t correspond to that role of attacking midfielder. And it belongs to players who did more good than harm for the national team.”
