Everything seems to be coming up Lakers.
On the court, they’re in the midst of a five-game win streak led by Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves. Off the court, the return of another superstar is nearing. The Lakers announced on Thursday that LeBron James was cleared for basketball activities and would be re-evaluated in one to two weeks.
Prior to LA’s win over the Spurs on Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN provided an update on LeBron as well, saying the next step in his recovery would be doing 5-on-5 work.
As Charania noted, the Lakers are set for a five-game road trip, which somewhat complicates the need to play 5-on-5. The Lakers play in Atlanta on Friday and will be on the road through next Saturday, Nov. 15, when they play the Bucks.
In theory, he could play with the South Bay Lakers as their season is set to start on Nov. 8. The Lakers schedule once they return home does have an odd stretch where they play the Jazz on Tuesday, Nov. 18 and then are off until they travel to Utah on Sunday, Nov. 23.
If nothing else, it will afford LeBron time to practice with the team, which will be crucial during the season. However he gets his 5-on-5 work in, the main takeaway is that LeBron is nearing a return. Considering how well the Lakers are rolling in his absence, there is plenty of reason for excitement that the team is nearing a point where LeBron can join them on the ocurt as well.
