Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 7, Durham Bulls (Rays) 4
The Tides jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back in defeating the Bulls. It was a well-balanced offensive attack for Norfolk, as every hitter in the starting lineup reached base at least once. The bottom of the order did particular damage, with 7-8-9 hitters Jose Barrero, Terrin Vavra, and Reed Trimble combining for seven hits, including a double for each of them. A rehabbing Gary Sánchez had a two-run single. Enrique Bradfield Jr. went 1-for-6 with an RBI and an outfield
assist. Jud Fabian was 0-for-2 but drew three walks.
Starting pitcher Cameron Weston gave up just one run in five innings but was a bit lucky to do so, considering he allowed five hits and five walks. After a rehabbing Scott Blewett gave up three runs in one inning, the Tides got quality relief from Chayce McDermott (two scoreless innings, four strikeouts) and Anthony Nunez, who fanned two in a perfect ninth for his third save.
Double-A: New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) 6, Chesapeake Baysox 4
The Baysox let a 3-2 lead slip away late, giving up four runs in the bottom of the seventh. After a solid start by Luis De León (5 IP, 2 ER, 8 K), reliever Peter Van Loon struggled, surrendering four runs on four hits and two walks. The rally included two RBI singles, a balk, and a strike-three wild pitch. That’s minor league baseball for ya, I suppose.
There wasn’t a ton of offense for the Baysox. Their 1-2 hitters, Austin Overn and Tavian Josenberger, each collected two hits, but the rest of the lineup was a combined 1-for-20. Overn led off the game with a home run as the 2024 third-rounder continues his strong season. He also stole his 20th base, and Josenberger swiped his 21st. Griff O’Ferrall went hitless but had three of Chesapeake’s six walks.
