Imagine you are a normal high school student walking the halls and an 80 pound weakling challenges you to a fight. What’s the upside there? If you accept the challenge and win then of course that is what is supposed to happen. If you accept the challenge and lose then you are the laughingstock of the school. If you decline then you are the laughingstock for being the coward. There literally is no upside here.
Playing the Tennessee Titans is a similar situation. Of course, there is no declining option.
You play who is on the schedule, but it’s not like Sunday’s 26-3 victory has anyone feeling really good about the Texans. It just means you don’t end up feeling worse. It really delays some of those hardened questions on both sides of the football. They will have to wait another week when the Texans face a real football team in London.
Obviously, game balls go to the Texans defense that generated two turnovers and had two turnovers on downs as well. They allowed a field goal on the first drive of the game and nothing else when it mattered. The pass rush was relentless even if they only had four sacks on the afternoon. As usual, it was Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter getting in on the fun as the two continue to be the best one-two punch at defensive end in the NFL.
Offensively, C.J. Stroud had another very good day as he completed more than 70 percent of his passes, threw a touchdown pass, and added a rushing touchdown of his own. That was enough to win this one going away. I hate to make light of the Titans. Clearly, all Texans fans should be kinder because we have been in their shoes. You our outmanned from the moment you leave the bus. Cam Ward had a decent enough day outside of his interception, but there just isn’t enough there. Maybe it’s coaching. Maybe it’s scouting. Maybe they are just destined to be bad. We certainly had days when we felt like that was going to be our permeneant reality.
Obviously, most of Sunday was taken up by the rumors that the Texans will add another target to the wide receiver room. We will obviously have something more substantial when we hear something more substantial. At any rate, this was your lime wedge after the first month of straight lining tequila. Let us know if you feel any better in the comments and stay tuned to more in-depth coverage throughout the week as more news comes down the pike.
