Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 4, Charlotte Knights (CWS) 2
It was a walk-off in Norfolk! Down 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Livan Soto hit his third home run of the season. Ryan Noda and Jud Fabian scored on the play, and the home team fans were sent home happy. The Tides had just two at-bats with runners in scoring position despite getting seven hits in the game. Their first run came in the fourth inning on a solo homer by José Barrero. Rehabbing Jorge Mateo singled twice.
Carson Ragsdale started and pitched four innings with two runs allowed. Both
runs came in the fourth, when Ragsdale gave a double, a walk, and a two run-single. Cody Poteet, Thaddeus Ward, Cameron Foster, and Jose Espada pitched the final five innings without allowing a hit. Foster and Espada finished out the game by striking out the side in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Double-A: Richmond Flying Squirrels (SFG) 4, Chesapeake Baysox 2
Juaron Watts-Brown had another tough start. He gave up a solo home run in each of the first and second innings, then walked three in the fourth to load the bases before getting out of the jam. His final pitching line: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 4 K.
The Baysox tied the game in the third inning on a two-run homer from Creed Willems, and the tie remained until the sixth. Gerald Ogando took the loss with a single run allowed in the sixth, and Ryan Long gave up a homer in the seventh.
The offense had eight hits but went just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position (the one hit was Willems’s dinger). Willems had two hits, as did Reed Trimble. Enrique Bradfield singled and struck out three times.
High-A: Aberdeen IronBirds 5, Brooklyn Cyclones (NYM) 3
Luis De León allowed his first runs of August with three runs in 4.2 innings. He walked four, two of which came in to score in his three-run fourth inning. He struck out eight batters, which gives him a total of 29 in his last three starts.
Through six innings, the IronBirds had just three baserunners. Two of them were Edwin Amparo. He singled and got picked off, then walked and got caught stealing. Get it together, Edwin! The bats came alive after the Cyclones starter, Will Watson, came out of the game. It started with a Colin Tuft home run in the seventh, and continued with a four-run eighth. Nate George started the scoring with an RBI double, then the IronBirds took a whopping five consecutive walks. The last three walks forced in runs. The team had just three hits.
Ben Vespi, brother of Nick, pitched the final 1.1 innings to get the win.
Low-A: Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (CWS) 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 1
Ike Irish, 2025 first-round pick, was removed from the game today after his second plate appearance. Irish fouled two pitches off the same shin and was removed from the game as a precaution. Hopefully he’ll be back in action soon.
The Shorebirds had six hits, but scored their only run on a bases-loaded walk by Stiven Martinez. Cobb Hightower and Luis Almeyda had two-hit games.
Starter Chase Allsup allowed just one hit in 4.2 innings. He also walked four, which helps account for his three runs (two earned). After Adrián Delgado allowed two runs of his own, Andy Fabian finished things in style. He pitched three innings with one hit and five strikeouts.
