Illinois’ David Mirkovic has been named the inaugural Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the 2025-26 college basketball season.
Mirkovic averaged 18.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in his first two collegiate outings. He shot 57% from the field and 91% from the charity stripe.
The star freshman recorded a double-double in both games. His double-double against Jackson State was the first double-double for an Illini in their debut since Kofi Cockburn in 2019.
The Illini defeated Jackson St and Florida Gulf Coast this past week, scoring 113 points in each game. Mirkovic & co. host No. 11 Texas Tech tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. in Illinois’ first big test of the regular season.
