Bayern Munich star Harry Kane personifies what it means to be a striker. He has been incredible since he came to Bayern Munich, but nothing could have prepared anyone for the performance he would put up this season. In the Bundesliga, he picked up the Torjägerkanone with 36 goals, and additionally picked up five assists in the league, and in all competitions combined, he has 61 goals and 7 assists.
This season is certainly a career best for Kane. However, what’s just as interesting is that this season,
Kane has found himself a new favorite opponent in VfB Stuttgart.
Bayern won the DFB Pokal final, defeating Stuttgart 3-0, and in this game Kane continued to demolish Stuttgart. Prior to this, Kane had scored 4 goals against them this season alone, and once in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, and with today’s hat-trick, Kane’s total tally against them is now a whopping 8 goals, per OPTA.
This is the highest number of goals Kane has scored against the same opponent in one season. The maximum he has scored against the same opponent in a single season prior to Bayern was five goals each against Leicester City and Hull City in 2016/17 with Tottenham Hotspur.
Interestingly, Kane has only scored a hat-trick twice against the same side since his Bayern transfer, against VfL Bochum and now against VfB Stuttgart as well.
The numbers with penalties get even more convoluted. Among German opponents, Kane has scored three penalties against TSG Hoffenheim, and Stuttgart is one among the EIGHT German teams against whom Kane has scored two penalties.
Whew. That was a lot of numbers! But all this just goes about to show how fantastic a striker Kane is.
