Real Madrid midfielder Bernardo Silva scored the team’s opening goal against Red Bull Leipzig, his first goal as a madridista, and talked to the club’s media after the game.
“I am very happy to have won this game and scored my first goal with this jersey. It was a tough match, where I think we were much better in the second half than in the first. In the first half, we created some chances but also allowed them to approach our goal quite a bit. Thibaut was very important for us. In the second half, we controlled
the game much better, and in the end, we secured a good victory. We are happy and will keep moving forward,” he said.
Bernardo also explained what Mourinho wants from the midfielders.
“It doesn’t matter who is on the pitch. We are a team with very aggressive and strong players in one-on-one situations, who love dribbling and making runs into space. We need to find the balance between maintaining possession, finding the forwards, and being direct. We want to play fluid football, and we are getting to know each other better and trying to improve. I think the team has improved a lot in recent games, and I’m sure it will continue to do so soon. We need to strike that balance between controlling possession and the game while also not being a boring team, staying intense and aggressive, as Real Madrid has always been. That’s difficult, and you need to be very prepared to do it well,” he added.
He also talked about his role.
“I keep working. I’m ready to help this club. Whether it’s one minute, five, ten, or ninety… I’ll be training well, helping the group, and the day the coach feels he needs me, I’ll be ready,” he explained.
