For anyone thinking that PSV Eindhoven attacking midfielder Ismael Saibari was going to play wing at Bayern Munich, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has some bad news.
Per Plettenberg, Bayern Munich would use Saibari centrally as an attacker — typically meaning he will play striker or attacking midfield. Given his experience, though, there is also a chance he could play in the central midfield as well:
Ismael Saibari is NOT the alternative to Anthony Gordon. The Moroccan is planned for the central
positions.
Vincent Kompany was the main driving force behind the Saibari transfer, pushed hard and insisted to Eberl to bring him in.
In his career, Saibari has the following breakdown of games by position per Transfermarkt:
- Central Midfield: 66 games
- Attacking Midfield: 53 games
- Center Forward: 24 games
- Right Wing: 22 games
- Left Wing: 19 games
- Defensive Midfield: 6 games
- Left Midfield: 2 games
Last season, Saibari has this breakdown:
- Attacking Midfield: 26 games
- Center Forward: 5 games
- Central Midfield: 3 games
- Left Wing: 2 games
- Left Midfield: 1 game
This does open up a can of worms as for how exactly Saibari fits. Does he back up Kane? Back up Jamal Musiala and push Gnabry to left wing? Drop into the central midfield as the Leon Goretzka replacement? Slot into attacking midfield and push Musiala to wing? All of the above?
There are many possibilities. If Plettenberg is correct, the plot certainly thickens.
