Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique had some interesting comments after overseeing a 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League.
The visitors came from behind and scored late to seal the win, with Hansi Flick saying his team looked tired in the second half.
Luis Enrique admitted his team had found it tough going but hit back at claims his team won due to being physically superior.
“We found it tough to begin with. Barcelona are talented and they kept the ball so well for 20 minutes, we were working
hard. But with the goal we scored, the confidence really grew and, going in at half-time at 1-1, we built our attitude and confidence,” he said, via UEFA.
“If you say that we won this because of our physical conditioning, then I’m going to tell you that you are wrong. We are the team in European football who’s trained the least to prepare for this season. When people say that we win because of strength or fitness, it’s just a cliché.”
“For most of the game, we weren’t looking like winning, but in the last ten minutes, we turned it around and won. This result doesn’t change anything. I have zero doubts, this early in the competition, that Barcelona will be – like us – clear candidates to go far in the Champions League.”
The result is a blow for Barcelona and a first loss of the new season. Yet they will need no reminding that PSG made a slow start to their European campaign last season but then went on to lift the trophy.
