Former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is most recently coming off a knockout win over Jake Paul in a Netflix special event
that would presumably lead into a showdown with Tyson Fury in the coming year, but it’s now been reported by ESPN that Joshua was involved in car crash in Nigeria today where he sustained minor injuries, but two other individuals were killed. Joshua was reportedly sitting in the back of a Lexus SUV when the collision occurred.“The accident happened as a result of
a burst tire on AJ’s vehicle, which caused the driver to lose control and the vehicle to swerve into the stationary truck parked along the road,” Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo told ESPN. “For now, I’m aware of two fatalities and Joshua himself has been taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.”
Joshua has been vacationing in Nigeria since his win over Paul and is expected to be okay in the grand scheme of things, so this incident shouldn’t derail any potential fight with Fury in 2026, but it is a reminder of just how fragile life can be. We extend our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in this tragedy.
