The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-12, and there is speculation that it will be another one-and-done season. Pete Carroll was brought in to help right the ship, but the team is having one of their ugliest season in recent memory. Through 14 games, the Silver and Black have a point differential of -167.
With the offseason approaching, the Raiders’ front office will quickly have to decide on the coaching staff. With Carroll’s age, he might not be the man for the type of rebuild that is needed for this roster.
Tom Brady helped bring Carroll to the Raiders last offseason and has been focusing on calling games in the booth.
According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Brady is expected to increase his presence after the season.
While Spytek was Brady’s GM target last year, Brady’s prime head-coach target was Ben Johnson, who took the Bears job instead. Expect Brady — who has spent little time in the Raiders’ building as he balances his broadcasting duties on Fox and other business interests — to increase his presence as the decision nears.
Many of those in the building who know Carroll well understand that change may be necessary.
It will be interesting to see if Brady can convince Mark Davis that it is time to move on, given back-to-back one-and-done seasons as head coach. Davis will have the final say, but everything points to the Raiders being back in the search for a locker room leader.
