The Jets have signed quarterback Bailey Zappe to a reserve/future contract per Tom Pelissero.
The 26
year old Zappe was a fourth round pick by the Patriots in 2022. He spent two years in New England before bouncing between the Chiefs and the Browns the last two seasons.
There is little chance that Zappe will be in the mix as a potential starting quarterback for the Jets in 2026. It’s tough to see him even as a backup. He profiles best as a third string quarterback, the type who only sees the field in case of emergency. His NFL play to date hasn’t been particularly impressive, and his physical skillset is limited.
Zappe would, however, be a likely upgrade over Brady Cook as the third quarterback. His nine career starts include three with a QBR of greater than 50 so you do have an outside chance of getting decent play when he is on the field. You can’t say the same about Cook.
