Kentucky Football just completed the biggest road comeback in program history, and first-year head coach Will Stein had one of the best reactions you will ever see.
There are loads of coaching styles, some more reserved and some more swaggy. Will Stein definitely is more swaggy. He was up on a chair earlier this year, leading Cats fans in a C-A-T-S chant on SEC Nation. He told the media that Kentucky would win big because of him.
And he has done nothing to suggest he wasn’t speaking the truth. The
Cats are 4-1 (2-1) and will remain in the top 25 for a clash with what should be a ranked LSU team that is taking on McNeese State tonight. But it was almost a different story.
After Kentucky opted to play defense first, LaNorris Sellers put South Carolina in pole position in OT, leading the Gamecocks to a touchdown.
Kentucky answered right back with a Henry Boyer touchdown (3 in 5 games), and immediately Will Stein held up the duece, letting everyone know the game would end right there.
Kenny Minchey took the snap, stepped up, and found Willie Rodriguez wide open in the back of the end zone for a 2-point conversion and a win. Then, Stein celebrated like a student out on State Street, minus the couch burning.
That is the exact kind of reaction you want from a head coach. The guts to go for two and the willingness to enjoy the fruit of his labor. It’s not easy winning in the SEC; ask Shane Beamer, who is 0-3 this year. He deserved to enjoy it, and from the looks of it, he definitely did, especially with his family.
