What is the story about?
Before the Portland Trail Blazers traded for Ja Morant on Monday, the hottest rumor in Rip City involved Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown. The Celtics were reportedly willing to move their All-Star for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but when that bid failed, the speculated asking price included young players and picks. That’s when all eyes swung to Portland.
Today on ESPN, NBA analyst Bobby Marks said that he could still see a viable path for Brown to join the Blazers. Interviewed in the video below, Marks cited
several factors:
- The Blazers now have five starting guards: Morant, Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Scoot Henderson, and Shaedon Sharpe. They’re not going to play them all.
- The Blazers have enough draft capital to meet Boston’s demands.
- Boston may be willing to lower their ask since free agency is eating up other options as teams settle into more permanent form.
You can watch the video and hear the explanations. The big question: Is Brown to the Blazers a closed subject or is it increasingly becoming the only out for Boston? Stay tuned.
