The Cleveland Browns are just a week away from rookies reporting for training camp, with veterans arriving a few days after. Generally, the quarterbacks are first to arrive, along with the rookies, to set the stage for camp. For the Browns, the competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders will be the primary focus, with HC Todd Monken still undecided about who will start and when he will make that decision.
From “early leader” in March to “strong leader” in April, Watson has reportedly held
the edge over Sanders despite the youngster having “progressed so much.” Sanders’ rookie season was among the worst analytically ever, but few thought Watson would have a chance to start again in Cleveland.
Some were even surprised that Watson would be on the roster this year, but it was reported in early December that the veteran was a good mentor for Sanders in 2025 and the team wanted to keep the two together in 2026.
That positive relationship has seemed to continue throughout the QB competition this offseason. The two were filmed getting ready for training camp together in Florida, along with Jerry Jeudy, on the Instagram stories of user “marrinthecut,” as seen here:
WR Isaiah Bond was among Jeudy and others catching passes in the videos:
While Sanders and Watson find themselves in competition against each other, as Browns teammates, they continue to work together for what is best for the team, it seems.
Are you surprised how Watson and Sanders have handled the competition between them for the QB spot?
