Controversy was everywhere during Bayern Munich’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
With three disallowed goals in total for the game (two for Bayern Munich, one for Bayer Leverkusen) and two players sent off, referee Christian Dingert was in the crosshairs of Bayern Munich.
“That is the worst performance of a refereeing team that I have ever experienced in a Bundesliga match,” Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß told Bild.
Board member for sport Max Eberl spoke to Dingert
after the match to clarify the call on Luis Díaz. who was sent off for a second yellow card. Specifically, the second booking for diving and was extremely questionable.
“I just spoke with Dingert, everything is fine, it was a good dialogue. He also said that the yellow-red card wasn’t a yellow-red card. For him, it was clear that it was a dive, but he has now seen the footage and says: It wasn’t a yellow-red card,” Eberl stated.
Neither team appeared happy with the officials after the final whistle, but all things considered, Bayern Munich is likely happy to just escape with a one point when it could have been a lot worse.
