The Cincinnati Bengals have been trying to incorporate more offense from under the center. They made an effort all offseason to work out any kinks. Many wondered what would happen to it after they abandoned it against the Jacksonville Jaguars in their loss on Sunday. However, Burrow isn’t going to push to trash it.
“We obviously have to be better at it,” Burrow said. “We’re still going to stick with it and keep getting reps invested in that. I think it’s very valuable, so we have to be able to do
it. But we need to do better.”
The ending the Jaguars game was a special situation with a mixture of circumstances. The biggest was they weren’t able to run the ball well at all. Second was them falling behind while the defense wasn’t going to be able to keep them off the scoreboard regularly enough since Cam Little would be able to convert those long field goals that may usually be punts. That meant Burrow and the offense needed to go to work. Safe to say that if the run was working we would have seen more from them.

Quick Hits | Rookie WR Colbie Young Gets Some Work While Joe Burrow Takes Some Extra Work
This could be a big opportunity for Young. The Bengals may be down two of their top three options on Sunday, if not all three. There should be plenty of targets up for grabs. He could easily work his way into more snaps with a good game or two.
‘Perform On His Level’ – Bengals Pass-Catching Depth Aiming to Fill Star WR Absence Against Dolphins
“We came off of two losses, and we really need to get that rebound. If we don’t have those big guys out there, we still need to be able to perform. So, being out there, having one of the best quarterbacks, we need to be able to perform on his level,” Young said. “That’s what I was hoping when I was coming into this league. I know that we got guys. It’s a long season, so there was always going to be a possibility there. So I’m happy that it’s coming sooner rather than later.”
Young at least understands the reality of the situation. It will be interesting to watch how he and Burrow gel on Sunday going into a Bye Week.
Bengals struggle to stop tight ends, defend middle of the field. Will that change soon?
What is as frustrating as not covering them is not being able to tackle them. Cincinnati went out and improved their defense in several ways. However, they never touched the linebacker position where they trusted two second-year players to take drastic steps forward as well as slotted Jordan Battle as the starting safety. Battle whiffed on at least two big gains that converted 3rd-and-longs. Covering is one thing, but they truly can’t tackle them either.

NFL QB rankings, Week 5: C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young vault into top 10
Burrow falling out the Top 10 based on Sunday is fair. Truly, it was a great performance outside of a couple of throws, but the late interception in the red zone was a hard one to get by. Those are the little things that can move you up and down in this list.
Cam Heyward won’t ‘apologize’ for sideline outburst in Steelers’ loss to Browns
The wheels are falling off a little bit off in Pittsburgh, which will make that Week 3 loss hurt that much more. Aarond Rodgers and TJ Watt also had outbursts during the game. There is just a clear lack of discipline among some veterans.
NFL trade grades: Evaluating every deal made ahead of the 2026 deadline
The Baltimore Ravens acquire a veteran center that will be very important going forward. Cam Jurgens is also clearly a response to needing to be able to stop interior rushers that are prominent in the AFC North like Dexter Lawrence.
